The expansive, manicured lawns provide an ideal ceremony venue with a wedding arch and the gardens offering perfect backdrops for photography. Roll out a red carpet, add stylish white Hampton Chairs and rose petals … you have pure romance.
Throughout the seasons, Kate Sheppard Garden offers delightful changes. From spring with it’s flourish of new growth and tree blossoms, to summer with roses and perennials, autumn with exceptional foliage colours and even winter with trees showing natures own sculptures; this is a photographers dream location.
Kate Sheppard House is a private home; however arrangement can be made for the use of a bridal suite during the day of your wedding with a private bathroom and room to change and groom. This arrangement can also be extended with offer for access to a formal lounge, sitting room and the master dining room for the bridal party.
The interior decoration of the home features antiques and New Zealand art and provides a wonderful option for wedding photography. Surrounded by furnished verandas and options of a lounge, sitting room and formal dining room, the House provides character to enhance a wedding album.
For a wonderfully romantic wedding night, a beautiful bridal suite, complete with it’s own ensuite bathroom is available for bookings. Available on a bed & breakfast basis with tariff on request (guideline $450 per night).
Continental Event Catering is the preferred caterer for Kate Sheppard House. A marquee may be erected on the hard-surface tennis court to provide the perfect garden wedding reception setting.
Complete with white silks, flooring – and separate dance floor, solid French doors, clear walls to showcase gardens, lighting, heating and toilets, the marquee provides you with a canvas for you to simply theme. Furniture is included in the costs, just choose your entertainment and table decorations, and you have the complete package.

Groups are most welcome for private guided tours of Kate Sheppard House and Garden. Hosted by the property owner – Julia Burbury, you will hear of the garden design and plantings – including the expansive pottage garden yard and information on the historic background of Kate Sheppard, the original owner of the property, whose face today is found on the New Zealand ten dollar note. Julia welcomes visitors to see through her lovely home. This is an Heritage One listed property and well worth the visit. Guideline for cost: $10.00 per person.
Morning or afternoon teas and lunch are also available for inclusion for tour groups.
